Summerland School strives for excellence by providing a stimulating, academic, and caring environment in which all children may grow intellectually, creatively, and personally through the team efforts of the school and community members. The students will be encouraged to develop their integrity and talents to be productive members of society.
On Tuesday night, the CUSD Board of Trustees voted their approval for the submission of the elementary school waiver application to Santa Barbara County Public Health to reopen CUSD elementary schools in a hybrid model on October 1, 2020. A copy of the waiver application, in both English and Spanish, may be found on the district website, cusd.net.
Throughout the summer, the District Leadership Team met weekly to discuss how to safely bring students and staff back on campus to in-person learning when Public Health declared it safe to do so. Through those Leadership planning sessions and my meetings with Summerland teachers during the summer, we developed an Summerland Reopening Plan.
Upon approval of the waiver, Summerland Elementary will open for in-person learning using a hybrid model. Based on the criteria stated in the CUSD Reopening Plan and the Elementary Waiver, Summerland Elementary has a plan that outlines how reopening will look at Summerland. We are in the process of translating the document and it will be available on this site after 12:00 on Friday, September 18th.
